Sydney Bond started her head coaching career with three wins over rival Sapulpa, a team she played for in high school.

The Sand Springs volleyball team beat the Sapulpa Lady Chieftains, 3-0, in their season opener Tuesday, Aug. 7 at the Chieftain Center.

The Sandites won 25-17, 25-20 and 25-19 to start the season 3-0.

Devree Youngblood and Cloe Campfield killed it at the net, literally. Youngblood and Campfield combined for 18 kills, recording nine each to led the team. Cheyenne Henry and Madison Burris added three each, and Raylynn Mong had two.

Mong ended with a team-high five aces, Campfield had four and Henry three.

Youngblood had six of her team’s seven blocks, and Kenzie Harris recorded the other.

Madison Blaylock was all over the floor, recording a team-high eight digs. Burris had three and Mong two.

Last year, Campfield was probably the most consistent player, recording stats in just about every category, and Youngblood is now back on the court after dealing with injuries in 2017.

“I was proud of how the girls played together and humbled to be a part of it,” Bond said. “I’m looking forward to seeing the progress they will make this season. I can’t wait to play Bartlesville at home on (August) 14.”

The Sandites will host the Bartlesville Lady Bruins for their home opener Tuesday, Aug. 14 at Ed Dubie Field House.
