The coronation lasted longer than the dual.

The Class 6A No. 5 Sand Springs wrestlers beat Bixby, 75-6, for homecoming Tuesday, Feb. 6 at Ed Dubie Field House, and the dual lasted barely over 30 minutes.

Sand Springs (14-3) jumped out to a 57-0 lead before giving up six points with a forfeit at 182 pounds. The Sandites recorded eight pins and four forfeits. Blake Sargent’s 126-pound match was the only one to go the distance and he won 10-3.

Seven of the eight points occurred in the first period, but 170-pounder Dayvon Taylor pinned Bixby’s Andrew Plumlee in the second period.

The dual started with Brendon Wiseley getting a forfeit at 106, and freshman Carter Young pinned Bixby’s Aiden Kirkland in forty-nine seconds.

Seth Jones (120), Irwin Portillo (132), Scott Patton (138), Colby Heckencamp (145), Chris Kirby (152) and Kaleb Tabor (160) picked up bonus point with pins.

The last four matches were forfeits and three went Sand Springs’ way -- 195, 220 and 285 pounds.

Before the dual, senior manager Morgan Schlehuber was crowned the 2018 CPHS wrestling homecoming queen, and Kissing Captain Blake Sargent sealed the deal with a kiss on the cheek.
