NO. 5 SANDITES WIN DISTRICT DUALS, BEATING ENID, MUSKOGEE, BARTLESVILLE

Sand Springs had little trouble in the Dist. 6A-6 duals and they didn’t score below 55 points in all three duals. Bartlesville, Enid and Muskogee came to town Thursday, Jan. 18 at Ed Dubie Field House, and the Class 6A No. 5 Sandites coasted through the district duals. “I’m proud of these young guys stepping up,” said head coach Kelly Smith. “Every kid that wrestled today will be back next year.” Sand Springs (8-1) made quick work of No. 15 Enid, 55-18, and the Plainsmen won only four of the 14 matches in the dual. The Sandites took a 43-0 lead, making it impossible for the Plainsmen to catch up with six matches left. Enid won at 160, 182, 200 and 285, and both teams gave up a forfeit. Sand Springs gave up six points at 220 and Enid at 106. Sand Springs 62, Muskogee 12: At one point, the Sandites had a 42-6 advantage over the Roughers, giving up only two matches in a 62-12 win over No. 13 Muskogee. Weir (113), Jones (120), Colten Roberts (126), Chris Kirby (152), Riley Magee (195) and Young (106) all won by pin, and the Sandites picked up forfeits at 160, 182 and 220. Sand Springs 57, Bartlesville 15: The Sandites trailed 9-0 after two matches but they won 11 out of the last 12 matches. Jones (120) and Roberts (126) dropped the first two matches, but a win from Irwin Portillo (132) and a pin from Scott Patton (138) gave Sand Springs a 10-9 lead, and they never trailed again. Trailing 9-0, the Sandites rattled off 49-straight points before Bartlesville could put any more points on the board at 285. Young (106) got a pin in the second period and Riley Weir (126) recorded a 4-0 win to end the dual. The Sandites recorded seven pins against the Bruins.
