SANDITES SIGN LETTERS OF INTENT

Four Sand Springs athletes signed letters of intent to play college sports, keeping up with Sand Springs' tradition of sending athletes to college. Destanie Garrett, Gloria Mutiri, Carson Griggs and Tiqvah Soap all signed on the dotted line in front of family and friends, Wednesday, Nov. 8 at Ed Dubie Field House. Garrett, a softball player, is headed for Southwestern Christian University in Bethany, Okla. She will be used as an outfielder or a utility player. This fall, the Sand Springs fast-pitch softball team earned its fourth playoff berth in five years, falling to Choctaw in the first round. They ended the season, 23-8, with a regional title. Mutiri, a volleyball player, signed to play at Kansas State University. Mutiri is considered one of the top players in the state of Oklahoma and was named the Tulsa World All-World Volleyball Player of the Year after her junior year. As a senior, Mutiri ended with 558 kills, 47 aces, 122 digs and 93 blocks in a 16-17 season. The Sandite girls ended their season in the regional finals. Mutiri is arguably the top volleyball player in school history. Griggs, a Sandite golfer, signed to swing his clubs at the University of Denver next year. His best season was a second-place finish at the state match his junior year, and he still has his senior season ahead of him. He is considered one of the top golfers in school history. Soap, a track and cross country runner, will run at Friends University in Wichita, Kansas. Soap has been a member of the cross country team for the past several years, and ran in the state meet her junior year with the girls team.
