The Sand Springs record books have Payton Scott’s name written all over them.

In a 42-point win over Bartlesville, Scott rushed for 507 yards, scored seven touchdowns and now has over 2,200 rushing yards and 28 touchdowns on the season -- all of them school records.

The Charles Page High School football team beat Bartlesville, 55-13, Friday, Oct. 27 on a windy and cold night at Memorial Stadium.

“It’s pretty cool, honestly,” Scott said about rushing for over 500 yards.

Head coach Dustin Kinard said Scott’s stats were impressive, but he gave a lot of the credit to the offensive line, and Scott agreed.

“Oh my gosh, I love all those guys – Zac Blake, Miron Krotzer, Cameron Lierly, J.T. Bristow, and the tight ends Dash Fleischman and Luke Bratcher and fullback Cooper Mock. Those guys, and all of the wide outs, I give them the credit, for real,” Scott said.

Class 6AII No. 10 Sand Springs (5-4, 3-2 Dist. 6AII-2) bounced back with the win after dropping district games to Muskogee and Booker T. Washington the past two weeks.

Scott scored the first touchdown of the game on a 6-yard run, but fellow running back Ben Nortey scored an 8-yard touchdown for the 14-0 lead. Scott added another to start the second quarter for the 21-0 Sandite advantage, but Bruin quarterback Noah Sunday threw a 48-yard score to John Cone.

Scott rushed for two more touchdowns before Sunday threw his second touchdown of the game for the 35-13 Sand Springs lead at halftime.

After two quarters of play, Scott had rushed for over 264 yards with four touchdowns and the second half would be just as impressive.

The senior running back rushed for 243 more yards and three scores in the final two quarters, carrying his team one step closer to the playoffs.

Senior defensive back Hyatt Cartwright intercepted a pass from Sunday at the Sand Springs 30-yard, and it resulted in a 5-yard score from Scott. He added two more touchdowns before the end of the third quarter for the 55-13 Sandite lead.

“The o-line blocked it just like we set it up all week long. We called two pass plays and went 1-for-1 and had a sack. The o-line was on tonight,” Kinard said.

Scott broke the single-game rushing record earlier in the season, but obliterated that record with 507 yards against Bartlesville. He was tied for rushing touchdowns in a season with 21 but his seven against the Bruins gives him a record 28.
